Pay-t: Modern payment methods at e-charging stations
December 8, 2023

GLS Mobility and wallee are making Switzerland mobile: new payment terminals for e-vehicles will be set up for the ski season.

Wallee Group AG and Bochum-based mobility pioneer GLS Mobility are launching Pay-t, an innovative payment system for e-charging stations, on the Swiss market. As Software-as-a-Service (SaaS), the payment terminal is revolutionizing payment processing for electromobility in Switzerland.

Pay-t is a completely self-sufficient payment terminal and revolutionizes payment processing at charging stations. It offers a variety of payment methods. The payment terminal can be used across all manufacturers at new or existing charging stations and enables payments via bank, debit and credit cards, mobile payment methods such as Apple Pay and Google Pay as well as fleet cards.

Bundled competencies

Both wallee and GLS Mobility are committed to sustainable and user-friendly solutions. The collaboration between the two companies is an important milestone for electromobility. Alexander Meurer from the management of GLS Mobility says: "We are delighted to be working with our partner wallee to open up the exciting sales market in Switzerland. With Pay-t as Software-as-a-Service, we gain flexibility. I am very proud of the project team's performance, which has made our payment solution fit for the Swiss market very quickly. Pay-t is currently being put into operation at the first locations shortly before the upcoming ski season."

Sascha Krüsi, CXO / Co-Founder of wallee and himself often on the road with wallee's own electric van, says: "To help electromobility achieve a breakthrough, we need not only enough charging stations but also simple payment options. Up to now, there has tended to be a payment chaos at the e-charging stations. Our solution puts an end to this confusion. Together with our partner GLS Mobility, we are enabling a convenient and user-friendly payment experience. This once again strengthens the acceptance of e-mobility."

More options for customers

Customers can now use the payment methods they know and prefer. With 93% of Swiss people in possession of a debit card1 and 67% of all transactions at the POS made with bank, debit or credit cards or mobile payments2, the Pay-t meets the expectations of modern consumers. While the use of customer cards to charge electric vehicles is still the standard today (so-called closed-loop solutions), only 1% of all transactions at the point of sale are actually paid for by Swiss people using customer cards - a decrease of 50% since 20192. The Pay-t reaches all customer groups (open-loop + possibility to use customer/fleet cards) and thus offers maximum flexibility.

Come, charge, pay: Plug and pay with Pay-t

The Pay-t enables all customers to make ad-hoc payments at existing or new charging points. The focus is on user-friendliness: the payment terminal acts as a central point of contact for all charging points. The plug-and-pay functionality makes charging electric vehicles easier than ever before. Now also in Switzerland.
