What sounds like the wish of an entire industry is now possible: paying directly with cryptocurrencies at standard in-store card terminals. And with many supported currencies such as Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT and USDC - without any additional billing effort for the merchant. The payment provider wallee and the Ammer Group are providing the technical implementation.
You can now pay with cryptocurrencies: just as easily as with euros or Swiss francs and just as conveniently as with a traditional credit card or Twint. The debate is at least as old as cryptocurrencies themselves. Are "cryptos" just a means of storing value or an active means of payment and where can they be used? One thing is certain: Only with a broad acceptance network will cryptocurrencies become increasingly important as an alternative means of payment.
Accepting cryptocurrencies in stores is a big step in this direction: the Swiss Wallee Group AG and Ammer Group AG have developed an app that turns standard payment terminals into acceptance points for cryptocurrencies. Processing is just as easy as with a credit card or a QR code payment and without any additional billing effort, neither for the merchant nor for the customer when making a payment.

Ammer Pay for wallee terminals
Merchants can now load the Ammer Pay app directly onto their wallee payment terminal and thus expand the functionality and service for their customers. All they need is a free account with Ammer Pay including an acceptance contract for cryptocurrencies. The app can be loaded directly onto the terminal in the wallee portal and is ready for use in just a few steps.
Customers can pay with cryptocurrencies
Once the app has been activated on the merchant's wallee payment terminal, customers can pay directly with their preferred cryptocurrency at check-out, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH) and Tether (USDT). To do this, the retailer clicks on the terminal to switch to the Ammer Pay app, enters the desired amount in Swiss francs and the customer can pay with their crypto wallet and the desired cryptocurrency. Either a QR code is generated and displayed on the terminal or contactless payment can be made - just like with a credit card or Apple Pay.
No additional billing effort for retailers
There is no additional accounting effort for the merchant, as the transactions in the selected cryptocurrency are exchanged directly into the target currency Swiss francs and paid out as usual with a merchant statement. Merchants thus have full transparency regarding the volumes of cryptocurrencies and transactions, but avoid their own accounting efforts or associated currency risks.
A step towards further mass adoption of cryptocurrencies
With the Ammer Pay app on wallee terminals, payment terminals can now also accept payments with various cryptocurrencies. This means that customers can now pay with their BTC, ETH, USDT and other cryptocurrencies in regular stores. This is a big step towards opening up cryptocurrencies to the mass market and giving customers access to the many benefits of fast transactions with cryptocurrencies.
